We cannot try to create a false sense of balance—God is not half wrath and half good to a believer. He is all good and loving towards us because Jesus took all the wrath that we deserved, upon Himself at the cross. Since He drank the cup of God’s judgment to its dregs, there is nothing else for us to receive except for God’s goodness.
Look at the way Jesus healed those who came to Him in the four gospels. All of the sick who placed their faith in Him went away healed. None were disappointed or put to shame.
When Jesus wanted to thank Peter for lending Him his boat, He gave him a net-breaking, boat-sinking load of fishes. On another occasion, Jesus multiplied five loaves and two fishes to feed multitudes, and there were twelve baskets full of leftovers after the thousands of people ate and were satisfied. God does not give just enough—He gives generously, in abundant measure!
When you look at Jesus’ miracles in the four gospels, you will see God’s heart of goodness. It is the goodness of God that leads us to repentance.
Like the father in the parable of the prodigal son, God is good to us when we come home to Him, and we don’t have to prove ourselves first before experiencing His goodness.
